Stimulated Brillouin scattering by surface acoustic waves in lithium niobate waveguides

چکیده
We numerically demonstrate that Lithium Niobate on Insulator (LNOI) waveguides may support confined short-wavelength surface acoustic waves interact strongly with optical fields through backward stimulated Brillouin scattering in both $Z$ and $X$-cut orientation. conduct fully anisotropic simulations consider not only moving boundary photoelastic forces, but also roto-optic forces for the interaction. Our results indicate photoelasticity dominates gain can reach as high $G_{B}/Q_{m}$ = 0.43 W$^{-1}$m$^{-1}$ standard ridge

Tailorable stimulated Brillouin scattering in nanoscale silicon waveguides
Nanoscale modal confinement is known to radically enhance the effect of intrinsic Kerr and Raman nonlinearities within nanophotonic silicon waveguides. By contrast, stimulated Brillouin-scattering nonlinearities, which involve coherent coupling between guided photon and phonon modes, are stifled in conventional nanophotonics, preventing the realization of a host of Brillouin-based signal-proces...
متن کاملAnalysis of enhanced stimulated Brillouin scattering in silicon slot waveguides.
Stimulated Brillouin scattering has attracted renewed interest with the promise of highly tailorable integration into the silicon photonics platform. However, significant Brillouin amplification in silicon waveguides has yet to be shown. In an effort to engineer a structure with large photon-phonon coupling, we analyzed both forward and backward Brillouin scattering in high-index-contrast silic...
متن کاملOptimized Digital Optical Switch Using Proton Exchanged Lithium Niobate Waveguides
The main emphasis in developing DOS has been on achieving low crosstalk (CT). CT in the order of -30 dB is acceptable in conventional DOS and below that value is hard to achieve. Relatively low drive voltage (or power requirements) is also necessary to optimized DOS. This paper depicts the design of Y-branched digital optical switches (DOS) with optimized on-chip area coverage, reduced driving ...
متن کاملAcoustic build-up in on-chip stimulated Brillouin scattering
We investigate the role of the spatial evolution of the acoustic field in stimulated Brillouin scattering processes in short high-gain structures. When the gain is strong enough that the gain length becomes comparable to the acoustic wave decay length of order 100 microns, standard approximations treating the acoustic field as a local response no longer apply. Treating the acoustic evolution mo...
متن کاملBrillouin light scattering from surface acoustic waves in a subwavelength-diameter optical fibre
Brillouin scattering in optical fibres is a fundamental interaction between light and sound with important implications ranging from optical sensors to slow and fast light. In usual optical fibres, light both excites and feels shear and longitudinal bulk elastic waves, giving rise to forward-guided acoustic wave Brillouin scattering and backward-stimulated Brillouin scattering. In a subwaveleng...
